Emergency Appeal for Pakistan

Pakistan continues to struggle in response to massive flooding, which has affected an estimated 20 million people.  Continuing monsoon rains have washed away roads and bridges and are hampering relief efforts.  The rains also can make it impossible for relief and rescue helicopters to reach stranded communities.  The United Church of Canada, together with other members of the global ACT Alliance, is continuing to monitor and respond to the crisis.  As a result of donations made by its members, the United Church sent $25,000 to ACT immediately following initial news of the crisis, and has now sent an additional $40,000 also to be used for ACT’s work on the ground.

 How you can help:

Donate:  If you would like to contribute to this appeal, you can give your cheque made out to St. Andrew’s River Heights United Church (marked “Pakistan Flood Relief”) to the church office or place it in the collection plate.  We will then forward your donation to The United Church of Canada.  Your gift will be included in your St. Andrew's 2010 income tax receipt.  You can also send your gift directly to: The United Church of Canada (marked “Pakistan Flood Relief”), Financial Services Unit, 3250 Bloor Street West, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario, M8X 2Y4.  Online donations can be made at www.united-church.ca/pakistan

Pray: Hold the people of Pakistan and their families around the world in prayer.  Please keep those who are working to alleviate their suffering also in your prayers.

The Shelter Project

One quick drive down Kingsway and a peek down the lane, will tell you that the roof project is well under way.

So is the Shelter Project.

The congregation needs to raise $125,000 over the next 2 years to pay for a roof that will keep us dry and warm for at least the next 30 years.

To date the congregation has raised $56,879.

The Sunday School, after pledging $300, has already exceeded their goal, raising $306.96 in only 15 weeks!

Thank you for your generosity.
